This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I work with preschool children that have a variety of communication needs. In speech therapy at the preschool level some sessions are structured and working at the table, this is where games like Jake the Snake or Litter Bug come in handy! We are playing a game for reinforcement, but targeting specific speech sounds or language concepts. Other therapy sessions very much play based!
Children first learn their speech and language skills through play.
This is why I have chosen many play sets to utilize during therapy that my students will love! I used themes depending on the month or the week and so a variety of play sets are a great thing to have in my therapy tool box. The Melissa and Doug Recues Vehicle Garage, will be great for play during community helpers lesson, and the Learning Resources Set will be a nice addition to my spring/summer themes, as well as the Fisher Price Caring for Animals Farm. We do a large unit on farm so this will be so motivating for all of my students, but so many language concepts can be targeted with this toy!
The excitement for my students that I have had creating this project is astounding and picturing my students faces when we have new toys to play with, LITERALLY, brings so much joy!
