My Students

I am an elementary school guidance counselor at a public school in Brooklyn,NY. I counsel students from grades K-5. My students are all working on increasing and strengthening their social and emotional intelligence. My students are intelligent, inquisitive, sensitive, curious and have a love for learning. My students are learning how to identify and express their emotions. They are learning coping skills to help manage big emotions such as anger, fear and sadness. The students are also learning how to manage friendships and conflicts. My overarching goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where my students social and emotional needs are met so they can reach their full potential at school.

My office is a safe place for students to practice social skills, learn coping skills to help manage their emotions and above all explore, create and learn about themselves through play, art activities, and discussion.

My Project

My students are eager, excited, sometimes scared, creative and curious children. My goal for all my students is for them to feel good about themselves, to learn how to self advocate , problem solve and develop coping strategies for different feelings and situations.

My students are all at different places.

Some are learning how to identify and describe their feelings. Many of them are learning and practicing social skills. Some are working on learning how to be a good friend and how to deal with conflicts. We learn a lot of this through play.

The games, puzzles and materials I am seeking will provide my students opportunities to develop social skills such as compromising, listening, taking turns and seeing other peoples perspectives. They will practice naming and identifying feelings and explore how to manage difficult feelings. Please consider giving to this project.
