Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!

My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.

My Project

Games help children learn. I would love to help my students learn in this fun way. My students don’t have the luxury of owning their own board games. I would like to give my students multiple board games so that they can play them with their families and learn together. Playing games as a family builds a bond of love and learning.

Game night is a wonderful way to learn; my kids need board games at home.

If funded before the winter holidays, my families will have presents to open this holiday season. And if funded after winter break, my kids will receive these games and these games will help them continue their education while distance learning.

Traditional games, like Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Twister and Trouble, will provide new, wonderful memories for my families. They will turn off the computer and learn in a fun way together. Thank you for considering my class and my families for your donation. Wishing you all happy holidays!
