Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool students are currently learning how to use the classroom toys and materials. Throughout the day, my students are able to explore the different centers in our room. They specially enjoy the block area, but the go wild when we have our Play-Doh table set out.

My students are 3 year-olds who have moderate to severe developmental delays.

Most of them have autism and come from low-income homes. For most of my students, this is their first school experience. My students enjoy hands-on activities and they demonstrate interest in new materials when they are presented. They love cause-and-effect toys as well as materials they can make creations with. We spend a lot of time following the child's lead as we support their needs. Like many other schools throughout the country, we too have been affected with all the budget cuts and limited resources. Our school district recently invested in our programs and supplied us with age-appropriate furniture and toys, but consumable items such as Play-Doh was not provided. My students are in the process of learning how to use the new materials. We have the environment, now we need to work on having the right interest materials.

My Project

The lessons, skills, and experiences my students will gain from playing with Play-Doh are endless! Play-Doh in the classroom will encourage my students to communicate! My students will have access to a variety of Play-Doh colors. They will be able to make choices as to what colors they want, and most importantly, my students will express their creativity through their creations! We will be able to work on color recognition, counting, matching, and fine motor skills. We will be able to use different manipulatives, such as cars, pegs, dinosaurs, scissors, stamps, and molding toys (to name a few) along with the Play-Doh. My students will also have the opportunity to use the Play-Doh as a method to relax and focus.

All donations will make it possible for my students to have endless opportunities to engage in fun, developmentally appropriate activities.

I want my students to be able to successfully communicate ideas, needs, and thoughts! My students will have the opportunity to work on these skills as they have fun playing with Play-Doh!
