My Project

Lets talk about the importance of play! Play is an integral part of child development. Many of the tasks of childhood are mastered through play. It is the first space that kids learn to communicate, manage emotion, and utilize their imaginations.

I have learned that integrating play into the therapeutic process is helpful for both the child and clinician.

Students are more willing to engage in counseling and tackle uncomfortable topics under the guise of play.

Even traditional childhood games allow students to improve social skills, learn how to express feelings, and even work on resolving problematic behaviors. There are also specialized games that are geared towards helping kids obtain certain skills and while school based counseling is not formal play therapy, we can utilize some of the same concepts to help students ensure academic and social success in our schools.

Mrs. Tann Mastery Charter School - Lenfest Grades 6-8
