Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a classroom of adorable 3-4 year olds eager and curious about the world around them. Many of them are English language learners. Many of my students come from families where only one parent works. They are not given the opportunity to have many outside experiences based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. Please help me develop a love for learning and reading by providing my students with a listening center and a variety of books to help them grow as they begin their journey as young readers.

My Project

Children at the Pre-K age are just learning about books. They have a desire to learn and explore everything. Many of the students in my classroom come into school with little to no exposure to books. Many are English Language Learners, and come from families where English is not spoken in the home. By having a listening center with a variety of books on CDs, my little learners will be given the opportunity to hear different stories, revisit favorites, and develop a love for reading at a young age. They will also learn beginning concept of print strategies such as: how to hold a book correctly, letter recognition, word recognition, and vocabulary building. In addition, hearing stories in English will help them since, for many of them, their only exposure to the English language occurs at school. It is my hope that my giving my young students exposure to books, nursery rhymes, and songs in a listening center, they will be more inclined to turn to books at home, rather than video games. Please help me instill a love for reading, literature, and learning in the minds of my young students. Your donation will help me help them and will help them succeed through your generosity.
