This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

During our weekly Social Emotional Learning time, my 10th grade Plant Club members are *growing* a deep appreciation for everything plant-related: from the role of plants in various ecosystems to the health benefits, and sheer joy, plants can bring to our lives.

Our first project was creating a propagation station (pictured here).

My students learned how to propagate a pothos plant, and after 4-6 weeks will have their own plants to take home.

The products here will help us take Plant Club to the next level! We hope to end the school year with at least three plants per student: one propagated pothos plant, one plant started from seed, and the third a plant of the students' choice.

My students love working together as a team, and they were each drawn to participate in Plant Club for different reasons. Some of them have gardened or cared for plants before, and others are new to the idea. Over the course of the next three and a half months, we will explore the world of plants through the lenses of science, art, cooking, and more.
