Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school's students in grades 3-6 have shown incredible enthusiasm for transforming our school grounds through gardening in our school Garden Club. These students bring diverse perspectives but share a passion for nurturing our school's green spaces and learning about sustainable agriculture.

The requested supplies will create an immersive outdoor classroom.

Our Quictent raised beds and Yaheetech planters will provide accessible growing spaces for students of all abilities. The Russian Pomegranate trees and Apache Blackberry bushes will teach lessons about fruit production and patience, while the Lieutenant Broccoli and Red Lettuce plants offer quick-harvest satisfaction. Tools like the Root Slayer Post Hole Digger enable students to take ownership of garden maintenance.

Through this project, students will:

-Master practical science by managing their own garden plots

-Learn sustainable practices through soil management and water conservation

-Develop math skills through garden planning and harvest measurements

-Build leadership by mentoring younger students

-Create a lasting impact on our school's environment

What makes our students special is their understanding that gardening connects to larger life lessons. Whether they're carefully measuring soil pH or excitedly discovering new growth, they show remarkable dedication. Many come from urban environments with limited garden access, making their enthusiasm for growing food and flowers even more meaningful.

These materials will help expand our garden program, transforming students into confident environmental stewards who understand the connection between caring for plants and caring for their community.
