Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a first grade classroom full of different types of learners! My hardworking students come from low income households, and many are just arriving from China. A few of my students have learning disabilities, and half of them are English Language Learners!

Because we are all different, we learn in different ways!

Having such a diverse group of kids makes teaching more challenging and rewarding at the same time. I find myself constantly searching for new fun ways to teach my students and make learning not only fun but engaging.

A classroom with different types of teaching materials would make learning fun and easier for all students in my class.

My Project

My students will learn how to prepare the soil properly and plant and care for seeds in their own pots. The warming light will be beneficial in helping us keep our plants well lit and in a perfect temperature in our classroom. We will watch them grow and keep a weekly journal of what we notice is happening in our garden.

Then, when the time is right, the students will get to pick and taste their very own freshly grown vegetables and fruits that they have taken care of in their own garden.

This will tie into our healthy eating cookshop lessons and will be presented in our curriculum fair.
