My Students

I have the most amazing class of fifth graders. They are hard workers with a variety of backgrounds. They bring their unique qualities to build a classroom and community of caring individuals. We live in a bedroom community to a larger city. Most of our class is within walking distance of our school.

We have a new science curriculum and our fifth graders are excited for the new topics of study.

They are inquisitive, observant and hard working. These students are a joy to have in school.

My Project

Our grade level has new science standards. One standard is that students should describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment. Emphasize that matter cycles between the air and soil and among plants, animals, and microbes as these organisms live and die.

We would like to create an environment at our school to demonstrate the matter cycle.

We will be planting plants that help butterflies so that we can also see the interaction between plants, insects, animals and microbes.

We will use the composting drum to help students understand these cycles.
