Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The school I am working for has a bunch of really great kids. I am trying to teach them jobs that are available in the community. We are a title I school and also a border town so most of the kids are trying to acclimate to our country and our language. They also lack the financial resources to finance programs like this. My plan is to teach them about the soil and plants. Then we will learn about sustainability.

Living in a farming community has its challenges.

Most of the people want to get out of it and so finding people who want to work in the farming industry is difficult. Thank you for your consideration, we would also welcome any type of recommendations or visits.

I will be teaching outside about how to layout/ design the area to get the best results. Water conservation and sun are a big thing considering it gets so hot. We will use the white boards near the planting site so students can visualize the area. I will also use them to check for understanding. Part of my certification is in permaculture so that is the direction we will be heading.

We will need the seeds to grow vegetables because this is the first step in organic food education. We need the gloves to protect our hands from the soil when we are doing the gardening because we want to be safe. Next, we need the gardening supplies so the students can learn about the work it takes to grow plants. Since I am a science teacher I will also be teaching them about the oganisms in the soil and how growing something more permanent helps the soil.
