My Students

Hi! I'm a K-5 STEM teacher who teaches a range of grades (K-5). We are a Title I school, which means most are low income. Most of our students come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Our third graders are learning about plant growth and urban planning.

My students are inquisitive, and they love to learn! We are going to be learning about growing plants and vegetables, and I would love them to experience first-hand how things grow!

My Project

Comparing seeds that grow hydroponically to seeds that grow outside in soil is an experiment that my third graders are excited explore.

We have been learning about plant cycles in class, but here's their chance to become urban farmers!

My students need a beginner's hydroponics kit to learn about growing plants and vegetables in the classroom before they learn about planting in a garden! Hydroponic containers and a hydroponic challenge will prepare them to continue to plant indoors and out, learning where the fruits and vegetables they eat come from and how to grow them!

We will begin with planting seeds indoors, learning about what nutrients they need to grow, and then plant seeds outdoors. We will compare which is easier and more cost-effective.

My goal is to motivate students to be urban farmers for life - whether they farm indoors or out.
