My Students

Is there anything more beautiful than watching a butterfly take flight? What about watching that plant sprout from the soil, after days and sometimes weeks of waiting? My students need hands-on materials to better understand how life cycles (both plants and animals) work!

Working with special needs students this year in my classroom, anything we can learn by touching, feeling, and (in this case) growing and raising, helps students gain more meaning from what seems like simple concepts!

Our students are surrounded by farms and forests, but they do not yet understand how a plant grows, or the stages of life for a frog, butterfly, or white-tailed deer. These materials can help them gain the understanding they need to master our state standards in a very friendly, positive, and fun way!

My Project

With these materials, students will be able to grow their own "tickle plant" as well as pass the knowledge along to others since they will be able to take these plants home to share with their families! The experience of watching a butterfly change in front of your eyes from larvae to adult butterfly in a matter of weeks stays with you a lifetime. We can review these concepts, as well as "practice" the stages by acting them out with the puppets, as well as have our puppets "tell" us how they change with them reading books about it to us!

Students learn best by experience!

My class will be so inspired by our butterflies, as well as the pride they will take in growing their own plant,from seed to full maturity! Please help my class experience these wonderful things! It will definitely be something to help us plant that seed of learning that will stay with each child for many years to come!
