My Project

Being able to have honey bees onsite has been a vastly rewarding experience for our students. Getting up close to these amazing insects, never fails to impress. However, having to open the hive each time for students to make observations, is unnecessarily intrusive to the bees themselves. By using a new hive design that comes with observation windows, we will no longer have to open the hive for each visit, only for necessary inspections. This means that our bees can continue their work without disruption, and our students can observe as much as they want - a win-win!

Honeybees maintain a complex and cooperative community within their hives--one that is usually unseen.

With this new hive, that community will no longer be a mystery. Students will be able to more frequently observe, journal, and take notes on the inner workings of the colony.
