Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are second graders from low-income households. I teach at a Title I school where the free and reduced-price lunch rate is 84%. Although many of my kiddos have challenging lives at home, they still come to school excited and ready to learn! I have worked very hard to prepare a classroom that is warm, inviting, and set up to facilitate learning. But we are missing a few items that would help the kiddos reach their academic and emotional goals.

My Project

Growing up I remember saying I was not good at math and I did not like it. As a teacher, I absolutely LOVE teaching math and I want to have all the materials I need to help my 2nd graders be successful.

My 2nd graders LOVE math!

They get so excited when we do practice problems. My document camera isn't working so I have to do all example problems on the board. Having magnetic base 10 blocks will make it easier for me to show the kiddos how to solve math problems. The garment rack is a cost effective way to hang pocket charts so the students can play math and reading games.
