My Project

My students love the Black Panther movies. When the new movie came out this past fall I knew I needed to include a Black Panther provocation in our classroom this school year. I was so excited that I even went ahead and bought several McDonald's Happy Meals so I could use the Black Panther toys as part of our Black Panther provocation.

Inspired by the country of Wakanda, I wanted to create opportunities for my students to connect to a place where they feel represented and see themselves as superheroes and leading STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) experts of the world.

Wakanda is known as a city leading advanced technology. Going with that theme, there are several STEM resources that are part of this project. There are games and puzzles to support numeracy skills and shape identification. The picasso tile cars will be a new feature in our magnetic tile collection. My students can explore their interest in dinosaurs by exploring fossils. In our block center, students can build Wakanda using the African fabric, arches and animals.

This project also includes new books for students to read about their favorite characters in Black Panther. There are also books on becoming a scientists and teaching children to explore and ask questions about the world around them.
