The students at my Title I school are eager kids who want to show the world their music abilities. They come to music class ready to dance, sing and learn whatever musical element I want them to know. The students at my school have not had the opportunity to listen to music from different genres and different areas of the world.
My students love music and love to share with me their favorite experiences in music.
I teach at a Title I school where all of the children receive free breakfast and free lunch. There are many students at my school who receive back packs of food to take home over the weekend and we also have a food pantry at our school to benefit our families once a month.
Even with all the challenges that the students experience, the students come to music class eager to learn.
My Project
The system that I am requesting is for our exploration of sound, vibrations and how different pitches are made. The students at my school are working hard at integrating their math, science and music skills to work on how sound is made and produced.
We plan on using this speaker system to feed into our recording system so we can utilize our technical skills in music and create different sound with the pitches we sing and/or play.
This system will give us the flexibility to adjust the pitches as we play and sing to create awesome music. We will also be able to take this system and plug it into a WAVE program and as the students sing and play they will see the vibrations and waves that their sounds are making. We will be able to compare and contrast those sounds and talk about what we see and hear.
My favorite thing about STEAM lessons is that the lessons I am creating in my classroom enhance not only their music skills but their scientific exploration skills as well as math and applied science skills. I mask the science and math lessons with learning music concepts and how they relate to other disciplines. I love when students get the connection between what I am teaching them in math and science with their music lessons.
