I love that when my students see me in the hallway, they call me Mrs. Art Teacher and say hello. They also asked what project they would do next and couldn't wait to attend art class. My students are unique because they come from culturally diverse backgrounds and are eager to learn about the arts.
I make it my mission to choose art activities with bright colors that help bring happiness.
I also incorporate activities using social-emotional learning strategies, which help my students feel calm, joyous, and relaxed. They are enthusiastic learners.
I have requested 60 special shirts for my chorus students to wear when we have a dedication in our Butterfly Garden for Pinwheels for Peace. The shirts have the school's mascot of an owl holding a pinwheel. The shirt also reinforces the theme which is Pinwheels For Peace
Students will be singing songs like "We Are the World," Michael Jackson, "I'll Be There," Jackson Five. Students will share poems of kindness, plant pinwheels in the garden and release butterflies. The pinwheels will have kindness words and symbols.
They will also illustrate poster showing kindness. This will be a school wide activity focusing on kindness in the school, home in the community.
