This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our high-risk high school, we have motivated seniors working long hours to achieve their International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. But with curriculum changes, the Psych class is in desperate need of a new IB Psychology textbook.

Our school is a designated underachieving school in a low economic area in southern California.

Students at our school come from a variety of cultures, with a majority Hispanic students. Most of the students will be the first generation of college students in their families. In the psychology class, students work together on projects and participate in lively discussions. They work as a family and support one another in meeting the academic demands they face in an IB program. We have a designated mascot of "Pink Freud," coined by a student who enjoys 60s music and Pink Floyd.

My Project

The new Psychology textbook we seek was written directly for the revised IB curriculum. The text is IB PSYCHOLOGY COURSE COMPANION: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme by John Crane and Jette Hannibal With the new text in hand, we'll study abnormal psychology--Freud, here we come!--along with other intriguing units. The text was written to promote critical thinking. The students use the book as the source to create their own power-points to present. The text also covers the material needed to prepare for the challenging IB tests in May. The textbook will also be able to be used by future psychology classes.

With the help of the International Baccalaureate program, our IB students attend some of the top colleges in the country.

The psychology book we're requesting will help this outstanding group of low-economic students score well on the psychology exam, which contributes to their achievement of an IB diploma.
