My Students

Our school building does not have a gym. We have been very creative in providing options. Currently in our auditorium we offer Zumba, yoga and Pilates. In the rear of the auditorium, we have the opportuntity to increase class options and credit earning rates.

CAS (City As School) is an alternative school, where non-traditional students who are over-age and under-credited, take charge of their education by undertaking internships to earn credit towards graduation.

Our students left their former schools, seeking new options and ways to explore learning and to express themselves.

My Project

Many of our students enjoy small group activities and one-to-one learning environments. Our 3 P.E classes: Zumba, Yoga and Pilates, attract large number of students. In a school without a gym and no locker room, Ping Pong is a sport that lends itself to our space perfectly. With only two standard tables, ten students play doubles, five per table. My goal is to eventually have 4 tables to serve a class of 20. This will allow us to offer a fourth class option, and increase credit earning among students.

CAS prides itself on student choice; we are always working to create options that students indicate motivates them.

Not having to change clothes is big motivator toward participating more fully in physical education. We do not have a locker room or gym on the premises. Not having to change in the bathroom before and after class makes life easier.
