Help me give my students some basic sewing skills with the use of a simple sewing machine.

My Project

My Pin Pals girls (after-school club) have been learning basic hand-sewing skills this year and so far we have hand-stitched a silk purse, made a heart-shaped puff pillow, and begun to embroider. One girl has even mended a tear in a coat.

But, hand stitching takes a lot of time and we are ready to include projects that require machine sewing.

Having this machine will give these girls an opportunity to make simple garments and gifts and build confidence in self-sufficiency. We can upcycle old garments and fabrics (such as discarded curtains) into costumes and wearable art. The machine will help them save time and be more productive. And - it's exciting to see them learn new life skills!
