Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a small neighborhood school that serves the community around it. Many of our families are new to the country and many of our students are first-generation Americans. Our neighborhood is in a low-income area in Houston, Texas and our school is a Title I School.

We do so much to try and enrich the lives of our kids.

They do not normally have access to "pay-to-play leagues". They don't get much exposure to sports and recreation outside what is provided by school programs.

My Project

Our kids have very limited access to extracurricular activities. Our school simply doesn't have the money to provide all the necessities for providing quality education AND a strong athletics program. This is why we must reach out to the community for assistance. Many of these kids are learning baseball/softball for the first time ever and I and the other coaches want to give them the best we can, so that we can compete against schools that have much more in regards to funding and opportunities. This equipment helps level the playing field and gives our kids some equipment to improve their skills during our practices.
