This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Although I teach in a low income, poverty stricken area, my kids are the highlight of my day. They come in with eager and bright minds, ready to learn. I teach 10th grade English, which is a state tested area. My students are required to pass the test in order to graduate high school. I am also the Cheerleader Coach for J.C. High School.
I'm truly motivated each day to come to the intelligent young women and men, even with the circumstances some of them face.
They have the tendency to cheer me up and keep me going when I may feel it is too much to endure. I am grateful for them and the opportunity to expose their minds to so much more than the small town we are in.
My Project
Having a classroom set of the novel Piecing Me Together will help my students be able to analyze a text that they can relate to. The novel will increase their reading fluency and vocabulary. The storage containers will help with building our classroom library. I have been working diligently for months purchasing books for the students to read, but I have no where to store them properly. By receiving these items it is my goal that they will improve in all areas of reading and I will improve in organization. My vision is that my students will have a better understanding of objectives such as theme and character traits.
