Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever heard the saying, " A picture says a thousand words"? For my students this is definitely true when we are writing and learning how to gain mastery of the English language even though a for a majority of my students, English is their second language.

A majority of my students are English Language Learners from Spanish speaking countries and low income families.

Strangely enough this is not their greatest challenge. The greatest challenge they face in the classroom is not having adequate materials (such as computers, digital media, etc..) to assist them with their learning and meet their enthusiasm for learning.

My Project

Having the proper tools is essential in doing a job well. This is true for mechanics, doctors, nurses, engineers, etc.. The same is true for my students who can have a bright future in these various fields if provided with the right tools in order for them to do their job well as students. Photography and visual images are a great way for students to develop their writing ability. I have gotten great results with students using improvisational techniques in lieu of having the proper materials. I can only imagine what they can do with the right tools! My students need a digital camera to chronicle their journey through ninth grade through the use of writing and photography.

Having something as simple as a digital camera that the school budget does not afford will allow students to develop as writers and maybe even as visual artist.

I believe all students should be afforded every opportunity to succeed and/or be exposed to positive things they can be successful at.
