My Students

Picture this...students actively learning in their classroom. Picture 7th graders meeting with a paleontologist on a field trip. Picture 8th graders collecting science fair data and leading field trips for younger visitors. My students need a digital camera so that they can capture these images.

I teach 7th and 8th grade science, as well as two classes of 8th grade museum studies at a Museum Science Magnet School.

My students are enthusiastic, active, and engaged learners. They love learning and even more, love sharing what they have learned. My 8th grade museum studies students work with local museums to conduct field trips for visiting elementary students. One of the classes conducts living history tours in which costumed students recreate daily life on a California rancho in the 1850s. These "Junior Docents" teach California history to approximately 1600 fourth graders each year. My other museum studies class develops and conducts standards-based science field trips for Kindergarten through 3rd grade students at the local nature center. Each year these "Junior Naturalists" teach approximately 300 students.

My Project

My students need this digital camera and the extra memory cards to document their learning. Once we have captured the images we will be able to create PowerPoint presentations, enhance our classroom projects, document our science fair data collection process, and update our class website. We have selected this specific camera because it is able to capture high quality images and video in low light settings. This capability will allow us to videotape our living history field trip tours and have students see themselves exactly as the visiting fourth graders see them. Students will then be able to make any changes to their presentation they feel are necessary to better communicate the content they are teaching.

Your generous donation to help fund our classroom camera will allow my students to document their experiences this year.

We will be able to capture memories for ourselves and show others what we have learned.
