My Students

My students are young, enthusiastic, and funny, but also misunderstood and sometimes labeled according to mistakes they've made. They meet every challenge with creativity, imagination and hard work. My students long to see themselves represented in a positive light in the books they read. It is a beautiful experience to watch my students connect with literature.

My Project

Many of my students have a love/hate relationship with reading--they love to hate reading. I strongly believe if you hate reading, you just haven't found the right book yet. Sometimes finding the right book means finding the right book style, and sometimes that style is in the form of a graphic novel.

My students are drawn to the concept of fewer words on the page, as well as the incredible artwork found in graphic novels.

Graphic novels come in every form, from the classics to the contemporary, and I want my students to be exposed to them all.
