My Students

We've all heard the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" right? For second language learners, pictures are very important to creating meaning from words. Connecting the visual with the written is a powerful learning experience.

My 4th grade students are very creative and enjoy learning new concepts.

They attend an inner city school in Southern California. We have fun using technology and often they are better at it than I am. They have often expressed the desire to take their own pictures to enhance their projects.

My Project

My students currently have a digital camera that is older than they are. The the battery cover is taped shut, it has a sticky shutter window and sometimes just plain old doesn't work. With a new digital camera we can take short movies, as well as stills. It has picture stabilization that will help ensure higher quality photos.

I believe in using technology not just to motivate learning, but also to help prepare students for the real world.

Their lives are challenging enough outside of school, lack of or outdated technology shouldn't keep them from dreaming. Picture This!
