My Students

With the advent of state testing, the arts have sadly fallen by the wayside. I'm a huge believer in performing arts like music, singing, dancing, and acting. I want the kids to enjoy the arts and experience the many creative opportunities that school has to offer. It's time to record those memories!

My students attend a low-income school in California.

They are from different socioeconomic backgrounds as well as racial backgrounds, including Hispanic, Asian, Armenian, white, and black. They are very lucky to have a multicultural experience at this age. They are first graders with lots of energy and a joy of learning that is unparalleled. They are learning how to play musical instruments, sing, dance, and act. They love to see themselves doing these things in pictures and video recordings. I want to record these experiences for them to share with their parents and to show the kids how much they have learned!

My Project

My students need a digital camera, along with a memory card and a printer, so we can document our year. So many memories are created throughout the school year, and we would get to record their performing arts as well as their projects, oral presentations, field trips, growth throughout the year, and even their everyday experiences. Kids love to see themselves, and knowing their efforts will be recorded for posterity (and their parents' viewing) can inspire them to do even better. I would especially love to be able to record their singing, dancing, and acting so I can continue promoting the arts.

When I was a child, I remember performing and having all the parents with their flash cameras and huge video cameras in the audience. I want my students to experience the same joy of getting to see themselves perform and show them how to improve.
