My students need cameras to record and reflect on their learning.

My Students
Students do lots of great work within the school walls and outside of them. Reflecting on the work is paramount to learning because it allows students to process what they know, analyze it and determine how it can be put to use in other ways. With a digital camera, reflection becomes meaningful.
As a technology integrator, I have 450 students in grades k-4.
Coming to the computer lab is the favorite part of their day. My goal is to help teachers find new and engaging ways to incorporate technology in the regular classroom to take learning to a higher level. Teachers are anxious to do this and students are excited about having it happen.
We are a small district along the coast of Maine and are very fortunate to have farms and woods close by. Our teachers take advantage of that and often go into the woods and to the farms for a variety of activities.
My Project
The cameras requested will be available for teachers to borrow for both classroom activities and field trips. They are anxious to have a way for students to record what they see and reflect about the experience. With the cameras they can download the images to computers and Google Drive accounts for use in multimedia presentations, blog posts, stories and so much more.
These cameras are for students of ALL ages in ALL subjects. They will be in the hands of students frequently and be a perfect way to get teachers to begin working on using digital imaging for higher level learning.
For example, our 4th graders have a science unit about ecosystems. They explore our own vernal pools and share their learning with students around the world. It would require a new level of thinking to share and explain pictures of the area they actually see.
In kindergarten, students can create number and letter books using photos of a specific number of items or of things that start with a specific letters
Since the cameras are for ALL students in ALL subjects, students will discuss what they have learned, find connections to other learning, and share their learning with the world.
In the past, students have had to find images from similar events on the web. The images depict the information, but having images of exactly what they have seen and done is much more powerful.
Additionally, when their own work can be shared, students take more pride in it create higher quality work.
