My Students

Do you remember having to wait on your teacher to copy material from a book onto the board? Or having to wait patiently just to get a glimpse of a picture your teacher was holding? My students sure do, which is why I am asking for a document camera so that they no longer have to wait to learn.

I teach a group of enthusiastic high-achieving first grade students.

My students reside in the inner-city, in a socio-economic disadvantaged community. They face many challenges outside of school, yet they come to school eager and ready to learn each and every day. My first graders excel in all subject areas, performing above grade level. They learn and retain new information and concepts quickly. They are students who need to be constantly challenged.

My Project

Having a document camera would be a huge benefit for us in the classroom as it would provide a visual element to a demonstration or a lesson being taught. In addition, it would allow for more instructional and learning time. My students would no longer have to wait on me to come around to help them or wait on me to transfer material onto the board. Instead, a document camera would allow my students to get an instant view of the lesson being taught right from their seats. I would be able to demonstrate and model the task at hand as my students would be able to engage and interact during the lesson. A set of speakers would also greatly benefit my students' learning. When using the various educational apps from our classroom iPad, my students closest to the iPad are the only ones who could clearly hear. Having a set of speakers would eliminate this problem and allow all my students to hear clearly no matter where they are sitting to the iPad.

My first graders have shown that they can do well even with minimal technology and learning tools in the classroom.

However as their teacher, I believe they deserve more. My students deserve every opportunity to learn and to succeed. Please consider supporting my project and helping me provide the best learning experience for my students.
