My Students

My students and I are a crew, and together we will help each other achieve our goals for the school year. We start the day with a classroom morning meeting and end the day with closing circle. Through our meetings, we have become a classroom family who celebrate each other's achievements.

Syria, Morocco, Mexico, Lebanon, Somalia and Egypt.

These are some of the countries where my students' families come from, or where my students were born. We have a mix of cultural backgrounds, socio-economic status, and religion, yet, when we enter the classroom, we have truly become a classroom family. They are twenty-two driven third graders who strive for the best, and want to reach their academic and social goals. They impress me with their ability to make the best of every situation, and will be thrilled to have a document camera in our classroom that will help them achieve their own hopes and dreams for this school year.

My Project

Many schools are striving for a STEM certification, however, my school is many steps behind. I have requested a document camera, stand, magnifying lens, and carrying case so I can extend the small group experience to the entire class. I have also requested a class set of the weekly magazine, TIME for Kids, to reinforce the importance of reading nonfiction text. By having a document camera, I will be able to provide my students with instant feedback on their writing assignments, demonstrate science experiments, and manipulate math tools. By using a document camera in the classroom, my students will be able to clearly observe the steps I take to solve a problem. I will be able to reach students that were not able to follow along because we are doing it together. I will be able to reach students who are visual learners. I will be able to reach students who need an activity broken down- section by section. I remember loving TIME for Kids when I was younger, and I want my students to have that same experience. My students will be able to read kid friendly articles about what is happening around the world. It's a win - win for everyone!

I need the document camera and the TIME for Kids magazines to provide my students with an opportunity for them to become more confident learners.
