My Project

The sensory materials I am requesting, like a shaggy rug, pillows, and essential oils, will create a grounding environment that will help our students stay present and focused while in Speech Therapy. Many of our children struggle with minds that linger on past regrets or future worries, which can hinder their learning. By providing a calming space, we can increase the number of teachable moments, enhance their academic performance, and boost their confidence.

By changing the Speech Therapy room into a sensory sanctuary, our students will be better able to self-regulate, leading to more pro-social behaviors, stronger friendships, and an improved sense of self.

Our goal is to create an environment that maximizes focus, critical thinking, and learning; this will give our students the tools they need to succeed. These students are special because they've faced significant educational gaps and lack the resources available to others in different areas of NYC.

Despite these challenges, they have big dreams, and with your help, I know they will be closer to achieving them.
