My Students

I teach an enthusiastic group of third through fifth graders who are each as unique as they are lovable. My students are eager to learn and grow. Their passion for learning comes out in so many ways, from sharing their opinions on our class read alouds to expressing their thoughts and feelings in their reflection journals. Although all my students have their own strengths and growth areas, we all particularly love our daily independent reading time where we turn on our twinkle lights, get cozy, and curl up with good book.

My students thrive in environments where they feel known, loved, and valued.

As a class we are striving to build that space for each other. My students come from many different backgrounds and have many different needs, but each day we are committed to coming together and supporting one another in our learning journey.

My Project

While the start of this school year looks unlike any other, inside the classroom learning will continue! As students navigate new ways of learning, they are also growing and interacting with the complex world around them. Social studies content will play an increasingly important role in helping our students navigate the complex geo-political landscape in which we currently live. Additionally, knowing about our past equips future generations to build on the work (and correct the mistakes) of those that came before us.

With a presidential election approaching and people fighting for equal rights all around the world, it is now more important than ever for students to be equipped with the knowledge they need to become empathetic global citizens.

This year in social studies we will begin the year by learning about citizenship and activism as it relates to the upcoming presidential election. Next we will dive into geography and discover how we fit into the global citizenry. Once we gain an understanding of the scope of our world, we will return to the United States for a deep dive into the indigenous communities living in America. These books will provide access points for students to gain a deeper and more nuanced understanding of these topics.
