My Project
My project is to add more picture books to my 3rd grade classroom for Black History Month. This year, I moved from teaching 5th grade to 3rd grade, and I need to update my picture books. I want to read a book a day that celebrates the accomplishments of Black Americans in my classroom. I am fortunate to have some age-appropriate pictures, but I would love to read a picture a day and have extra to read during the school year.
Picture books help students feel connected to texts through representation. It is important to make an inclusive classroom where students feel seen and valued. My third graders are bright and eager to learn, and they love read-aloud times. These picture books would truly be a gift to our classroom.
