This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Middle School Choir in Texas. The MS Choir Department has a long history of excellence at TMEA and UIL Competitions.

Our students are tenacious and deeply curious, often asking questions that lead to a greater depth of musical knowledge than most middle schoolers would be expected to learn.

Another wonderful part of teaching here is that so many of the students join Choir in 6th grade, then continue to be a part of the program through 8th grade and beyond. Watching them grow, forming deep and lasting friendships with their ensemble-mates, is such a beautiful thing to behold.

My Project

I am requesting various piano and music theory resources, as well as a magazine rack for storage. I chose the resources on the list based on what I believe my students will find interesting.

My students will be given the opportunity to learn about music theory, history of musical composers, and basic techniques for playing the piano.

My hope is that this will give my students ownership of their learning and allow our students to work through additional lessons at their own pace.

These items will be used in creating lessons for in class, and they will be available for independent study.
