This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a middle school music teacher in an inner-city school, and I teach students from 6th to 8th grade. Most of my students come from a low socioeconomic background. Many of my students, tell me that music class is the reason they stay in school.

Research has shown that instrumental music instruction not only increases coordination, dexterity, and interest in music, but also improves mathematical and verbal cognition in children.

I want to provide my students with an opportunity to learn an instrument that not only interests them, but will provide them with lifelong benefits.

With a piano in my classroom, students will have the ability to learn piano. They will be able to enhance their theory and performance skills, while improving their coordination and intellectual abilities. The unique features of a keyboard lab allow students to work at their own pace, therefore challenging all students and encouraging them to achieve.

With your help, my students will be on their way to discovering the benefits of playing piano; an instrument that has been used as an effective educational tool for centuries and across all cultures. It will also get another inner city student making music.
