Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Pi day is coming up on 3/14 and I was thinking about how I can make it a little more fun. I teach 5 classes and was what better way to capture a middle schooler's attention, than food. The kids will be choosing what food object they would like to use to calculate the circumference, area, and volume of their object.

Getting some math review in before our state testing and having a little bit of fun and treats at the same time is a double win for my math kids.

These different food sizes of cream pies, moon pies, and cookies will allow for some variances in calculations and also allows kids to have the same types of items to also compare with one another. The kids can then eat their items in my class or take them for lunch later in the day. The cool Pi pencils can be taken with them to use throughout the rest of the year and the cool Pi shirt can be used to give them a visual of what Pi is close to in equivalence. All of this will be done with my team and they can use these items as snacks for later in the day when they have try outs for spring sports. What a perfect combination!
