My Students

My students are a wonderful group of bright, hard working and inquisitive kids who love hands-on activities and they LOVE roller coasters! I therefore try to provide as many hands-on opportunities for them as I can, however supplies are always costly, especially with over 170 students.

When learning about Physics, gravity, forces, friction, centripetal forces, etc, students needs fun ways to see these forces at work and inspire them to possibly become an engineer and design and build something some day!

My Project

If our project is funded and we are able to buy the roller coaster building kits, then the students will work in teams to design roller coasters with varying qualities such as highest speed of the marble, how many loops, height of the loops, etc.

Once the students have designed their idea, they will utilize the engineering design process to build, test and redesign until they are satisfied.

Teams will get an opportunity to test and evaluate their teams, plus self-evaluate their teamwork. We could even have a competition between the teams for best design, most creative, highest speed, etc.
