This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher at P.S. 182 in the Bronx. We do not have a Physical Education teacher at our school, so each teacher has to organize and monitor organized sports for his/her class.
I presently do not have a Physical Education background. Therefore, when I take my students to gym, it is a difficult task for me to organize activities for a 1 hour period each week. There is some equipment that the school provides that remains in the gym at all times. However, with close to 900 students in the school, the equipment has seen better days and most of it is unusable.
To solve this problem I am asking for some equipment that I could keep in my classroom and take down when we go to PE. My project needs 11 different types of gym equipment including balls, bats, and portable games. I am thinking of setting up activity areas around the gym so the students will be organized and safe. There would be a basketball area, hopscotch area, scooter, and jump rope area. Also, I could organize a game of dodgeball, basketball, or whiffle ball so the students can become accustomed to being on teams.
My main concern is that the children are safe, entertained, but most importantly, being active and leading a more healthy lifestyle. They would really appreciate and take care of the equipment. I have had great success with Donors Choose with my last two proposals being funded. I think this site is wonderful! Please help me help these children lead a more healthy lifestyle. Thank you for your continued support.
