I believe that this equipment will greatly enhance the learning experiences of our students. We're the first all girl public school on Staten Island and our students have a love, passion and drive for Physical Education!
Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, a lot of the units I've taught in Physical Education class have been with VERY limited equipment and a large imagination!
Because of this, students are in longer lines and experience longer wait times for each activity.
With this equipment, it would open the doors to so many new units! Some ways we'd use some of the materials requested:
Volleyball knee pads for our new volleyball team: These will provide the necessary protection and support for our students as they develop their volleyball skills, allowing them to focus on technique and gameplay without the fear of injury.
Foam balls for girls who are just learning how to bump a volleyball: Using softer, lighter balls will make the learning process more enjoyable and less intimidating, encouraging participation and skill development.
Badminton rackets and birdies for a new unit: Introducing badminton will expose our students to a new sport and help them develop hand-eye coordination, agility, and strategic thinking.
Scooter hockey unit with scooters and pucks: Scooter hockey is a fun and dynamic activity that will get our students moving in new ways, promoting teamwork and physical literacy.
My goal for this project is for each student to find a sport or activity they love and stick with it for lifelong fitness. What makes my students so special is their drive to try new activities. I'm confident that these new equipment additions will only further ignite their enthusiasm and passion for physical activity.
