This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Charter High School is a small but friendly High School were students socioeconomics status are based on inequities in access to resources. These students lack confidence due to poverty and lack of opportunities. As an educator, I want to offer what's best to help these students grow and be part of the change. Especially in Physical Education class, where students can express and enjoy sports in a friendly manner while being active. Creating a safe environment allows students to learn more about sports and physical activities as a life style.

Unfortunately, my students don't have access to basic equipment such as Volleyballs, Basketballs or even a Football; therefore I am looking for ways to bring equipment and prepare my students for a better future.

Since it is a charter school, money is a problem when it comes to purchasing sports equipment. Fundraising for team sports have been crucial, but in the neighborhood of Pacoima, things are getting pretty though. Regardless of the school neighborhood, the students show up to class ready to learn and in just one year, I've made meaningful connection with parents and students about their education that have made a huge impact in their lives.

My Project

When there is rainy days, I have to teach a health class in my classroom. There are a lot of essential items missing in my classroom due to the lack of funding. It would be great to have these items (dry markers, word bank holder and timer) in my classroom to make the lessons more appealing to my students.

Keeping my students accountable during "rainy" days is important during Physical Education/Health classes.

Creating a word bank/word wall in the classroom will help my students learn the proper terminology of the human body. Also, it will improve their spelling and phonetics if they look at those words daily.
