This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a 22-year NYC teacher and photographer. I also run a Photography club after school and we do not have enough cameras for this high-in-demand course. This project is requesting specific items to enhance my students' ability to express themselves through photography. These tools will provide them with the technical resources needed to capture their unique narratives, fostering both creativity and self-confidence.

My goals for this project are to deepen students' engagement in social-emotional learning through visual storytelling, promote critical thinking, and enhance their ability to communicate their experiences and feelings effectively.

What makes my students special is their diverse backgrounds and perspectives, which they bring into their photography. Each student has a unique story, and through this project, they can learn to articulate their experiences visually, building a sense of community and understanding among peers.

In this course "Photographic Storytelling: Exploring Identity and Emotion.", students use photography as a medium to express their feelings, experiences, and personal narratives. Through guided projects, discussions, and reflection, they learn to connect their emotions to their art, fostering self-awareness and empathy. This approach not only enhances their photography technical skills but also promotes meaningful connections with themselves and others through art.
