Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a class for children with severe and profound mental and physical disabilities. The children range in age from 6 to 8. They come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. The children have disabilities that include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, impaired vision, hearing, and all have limited mobility. The students are dependent on others for all self care tasks.

In my previous classes I have used a digital camera and photos to create books with pictures of the students completing various tasks and participating in activities in a variety of locations. The books are then used as a teaching tool to help the students remember their experiences.

The photo printer with ink and photo paper and digital camera will give us the opportunity to create books that are personal to the students. They love to look at pictures of themselves and can maintain engagement for longer periods of time when looking at these photos. The books will allow us to remember our past experiences and to prepare for future experiences. These books will travel with the students for life and will help them to remember simple day to day tasks as well as to remember fun activities that they participated in.

You will make it possible for us to create our own personal photo books. These books will bring smiles to the faces of these children on a daily basis. Their smiles will light the world!
