Each year the amount of money we get to spend for our classroom decreases. This year I made a big move from upper elementary to lower elementary. I spent my allotment and much more on setting up my classroom. I always put my students first, and always want the best for them.
All of my students are English Language Learners.
Learning a second language is not easy, especially English. The school is a Title I school, with low-income families. The parents work long hours, and many of them do not know English either. Not only do they have to learn a new language, but how to read, write and understand all of their academic coursework at the same time. Despite their challenges, every single day they come to school and give all they got to their education.
My Project
The games and activities that I have selected will allow me to do small group work and centers. Students will be able to practice the skills that they struggle with, while others practice another skill specific to their needs. This will help them understand the complex language of English and all of the different sounds, blends, digraphs, etc. Practicing with these games and activities will be engaging and educational. This will prepare them for reading more difficult texts and writing even better stories.
I pour my heart into my teaching.
I work before and after school to plan and prepare for each day. I always spend more money than allotted by Teacher's Choice to provide my students with the best and most memorable education. I want to be able to give them even more! This is my first year teaching first grade, I taught sixth before this. It would be nice to add to my repertoire of tools to help accelerate the vocabulary development of my English Language Learners. Thank you for considering me!
