Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

English Language Learners (ELLs) thrive in classrooms that provide engaging, hands-on activities tailored to their unique language development needs. Laminating sheets play a vital role in protecting center activities, ensuring these valuable resources remain durable and reusable. This allows ELLs to consistently access interactive phonics materials, reinforcing their learning through repeated practice. Laminated activities also enable students to write and erase as they work, fostering active participation and allowing them to correct mistakes without fear, building confidence in their phonics skills.

Pocket chart activities are particularly beneficial for ELLs as they provide a visual and tactile way to organize and manipulate letters, sounds, and words.

By physically moving pieces within the chart, students strengthen their understanding of phonemic awareness, decoding, and word-building. These activities also encourage collaboration and conversation among peers, further developing their speaking and listening skills in English.

Magnetic letters offer an additional hands-on approach that appeals to ELLs’ kinesthetic learning styles. By arranging and rearranging letters to form words, students gain a deeper understanding of letter-sound relationships and word construction. This tangible method enhances retention and makes abstract concepts more concrete.

Together, these tools create a rich, interactive learning environment where ELLs can confidently build their foundational literacy skills, setting them up for long-term academic success.
