My students need one a storage stool, seven magnetic lapboards, 30 write and wipe boards and erasers, a sight-word activity chest, and a phonics word building kit.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Dr. Seuss said it best, "Today was good. Today is fun. Tomorrow is another one!" Kindergarten in the ideal time for children to learn and grow in so many ways! The students in my class are the most happy when they are in their kindergarten classroom.
My students attend a Title I school with over six hundred students from grades PreK to grade 3.
Our class is an inclusion class, with twenty-two students, ranging from regular, to special needs, to ELL. Many of my students don't speak English as their first language but try every day to gain more language through literacy, math, gross motor play and free choice.
From the day they stepped into kindergarten in September, they have been eager to learn and have had so much fun doing it! Some of their favorite times during our day are when they get to write about their favorite book or practice reading and writing sight words. Throughout the day, they work with friends through cooperative learning groups to learn different strategies to assist them with reading, writing, math and daily social skills. Many of my students do not have the opportunity outside of school to get to the library or get to a book store so spending this time during the day learning with each other is vital to their success.
Over the past year, our grade level has had the opportunity to look over data. It revealed that our students need much more time focused on phonics and decoding words. This will help our students become more successful readers and writers.
My Project
For this project I am requesting one Classroom-Tough Storage Stool, six Word Building Magnetic Lapboards and erasers, Single Line write & Wipe Boards, one Road to Reading Activity Center, one Learning Sight-Words Activity Chest, Stack & Build Phonics Flip Books, Magnetic Display Shelves, a Phonics Word Builder Magnetic Kit, one Word Building Magnetic Lapboard and one Extra Magnetic Board.
These materials will allow for students to use manipulatives to decode and sound out words. The whiteboards will help with letter formation and spacing. These pieces are so important because they will build my students' self esteem and allow time to teach a small group of students. Lastly, they will also have an opportunity to learn different skills to help with reading and writing including letter formation, letter/sound recognition, sight word and word pattern practice. These activities will make an impact on all my students because they will help them start the beginning stages of reading. They will be able to learn the skills from me and then continue to learn with a friend or by themselves.
This project is very important to continue to contribute to a warm, welcoming and stimulating kindergarten classroom!
Please know that any help you can contribute will not go unnoticed. You will truly be making a difference in our classroom and our students' lives. Thank you in advance for being part of such a GREAT cause and an equally GREAT class of students!
