My Students

Our school is a low socio-economic urban school located in one of the smallest and poorest communities in Los Angeles, California. It services the needs of socially economically disadvantaged students from grades K-5. I am the new intervention teacher who enjoys teaching students the foundational skills needed in order to learn how to read. My students are beautiful, fun-spirited 1st Graders who you can’t help but love and embrace them.

When my students learn something new, they thought was too hard to learn, their eyes light up like a radiant star; their mouths erupt, like popcorn kernels popping in a hot sizzling pan.

They can’t wait to share what they have learned with their classroom teacher. They can’t wait to return back to my classroom to learn more.

My Project

This project will provide me with additional resources to help me design lessons to help my students overcome phonics deficits and close gaps they have in their learning. Phonics instruction teaches children how to decode letters into their respective sounds. This is a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves. We need your help.

These books will not only help me address the phonics deficits students are having difficulties with, but they will help me to isolate and focus my instruction specifically on each child's need.
