A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our classroom is made up of little learners who strive to achieve success. Our school district has a true “small town” feel to it. Our teachers and families are dedicated to helping our community of learners grow! My students are like a ray of sunshine: they are so incredibly positive and really enjoy learning new concepts. They enjoy helping others, including those in our learning community. I can’t wait to see what they will have in store for their bright futures!
My Project
Phonemic awareness is one of the keys to becoming a successful reader. Why not make it more fun to learn these skills? All of the supplies included in this project will be used to make phonemic awareness tool kits for my students to use.
After attending a "Get Your Teach On" conference, I learned new and exciting techniques to teach phonemic awareness for reading.
At the conference, each teacher was given a toolkit including the supplies in this project along with a demonstration for all items. The slinky will be used for "stretching" a word, then blending it back together. The finger eyes will be used to "point/follow along" while reading. The magnetic wands and bingo chips will be used to break apart each word into sound boxes, then to blend students will swipe up their sound chips with their wands to make the word. Included in the boxes with also be play-doh to make balls for each sound, then smash each ball as they sound out the word. To keep everything in a convenient space, I included the lockable boxes for easy storage. Students will be able to reuse these hands-on tool kits from year to year to become successful readers!!
