Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are between the ages of 4 and 5 years of age. They are just starting their school experience and they all have a great love of learning. Many began the school year knowing zero letters while others know a few. This age requires small group instruction, creative play, visuals, and manipulatives to provide different learning modalities as well as differentiated instruction for our young learners. I am excited to be teaching such a diverse, wonderful group of children!

My Project

The Float & Find Alphabet Bubbles will help my students bring language practice to water play. The students will learn first sound fluency by identifying the initial sounds in words through sensory play. This set includes 26 watertight plastic bubbles that help kids identify letters and letter sounds from A to Z.

The ability to isolate the first sound in a word is an important phonemic awareness skill that is highly related to reading acquisition and reading achievement.

The Lakeshore Magnetic Fishing Set will help my students increase hand eye coordination. This is an important skill for tracking the movements of their hands with their eyes, which is essential for reading and decoding. Hand-eye coordination also involves and utilizes so many other important body systems such as proprioception, vestibular, visual processing and sensory-motor.
