My Students

I am honored to teach 20 curious, funny, and loving 1st graders that come to school each day excited to learn! My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but once in the classroom, they blend together beautifully.

I am thrilled to be a small part of my student's educational journey and strive to help each and every one of them reach for the stars!

Whether it is learning to read, making new friends, or learning how to identify and control emotions, my students do it with enthusiasm and kindness. They love to do hands-on projects, work in groups, and share what they have learned with the class.

My Project

It is no surprise that the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted learning for students of all ages. Many have never been to school without the pandemic, including my first-grade class. They missed out on much of the hands-on learning and direct instruction that is so vital to the learning process, especially at the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten levels. Due to this, many students came to first grade with gaps in their learning. Therefore, it is extremely important for me to be efficient with the time we have in class, focusing on the most crucial foundational skills. Phonemic awareness and phonics are what I have determined to be the area most of my students are lacking.

Decodable books and phonemic awareness activities will give my students the practice they need to become great readers!

The activity boxes I am requesting are fun and engaging and can be used in small groups or individually. The decodable books will provide much-needed practice with decoding target skills we are currently learning. They will also boost confidence in reading since the words in the story can be sounded out. Learning to read is a goal first-grade students strive to achieve and decodable books allow them to do just that!
